Everyone can practice.

“Vera, but do you practice 6 times a week? 2 hours a day? I don’t have time for that! How come there are so many people practicing, where do they find the time? Do they work? Do they have children? Social life? But for me to be your student I have to practice 6 days a week?”. I laughed, because she didn’t stop asking questions, she had a funny expression on her face, her look was confused, and her tone of voice rose every time she said 6xs a week or 6 days a week.

When she stopped, I replied: – This practice is not a sport or a hobby that you do when it’s convenient or you feel like it. It is a practice that implies consistency, and therefore the 6 days a week aim to create a strong routine, capable of helping you to know, cleanse, strengthen and calm your body and mind.

It is a practice that aims to teach you how to be aware of yourself, and know yourself in the best place of all, called consciousness. You learn the importance of honesty and responsibility to stay, even when what you meet is not good, pleasant, pleasurable, or friendly. You know patterns, beliefs, reactions that in other contexts usually make you want to fight, flee or pretend. You learn to be non-judgmental and non-critical while developing self-love, sincerity, self-acceptance, and self-control.

It’s a practice that needs 6 days a week, but you can start twice, and at the beginning it’s not 2h or 2.30h of practice, but 45 minutes + a rest, because you’ll also learn to relax. Don’t worry about what will happen tomorrow or the day after, because naturally you find the time to practice more days. And be relax because this is a gradual practice, which starts exactly where you are and how you are, you don’t need to be or do anything to be able to start your Ashtanga Yoga.

When I finished speaking, her mouth was already closed, her breathing was calmer, and her face was relaxed. And she told me: – So I want to start now in March. And I’ll try 6 times if you think I can do it.

I laughed again.
