The peace you seek

The peace you seek is not in big events but in the little things in your everyday life.

The peace you seek is not out there, but in learning to be with yourself.

And so make conscious choices that help your mind become calmer and realize that after all you are not spoiled, broken or incomplete.

Don’t think that you will only be happy if you improve, fix, or repair what you so often criticize. Also, don’t think that only when you have the perfect job, the perfect body, the perfect house, the perfect marriage, the perfect moment, etc. is that you will finally find the peace you are looking for.

This leads you to an endless marathon, a life running after an expectation that you will never reach, and a daily life tied to the shackles of constant criticism, deep dissatisfaction, and the incessant search for perfectionism.

This doesn’t mean you won’t have to continue working on your skills, developing your talents, or overcoming your difficulties. But living attached to criticism, dissatisfaction and perfectionism takes away the power of your present, and distances you from inner peace.

The peace you seek is not in the “ifs” and “whens” of tomorrow, nor in the guilt, shame and frustration of what has already happened. The peace you seek is in your now, and within you.

And so celebrate today, the now, and above all, every small conscious step you are taking. And remember, when you lose your way, to raise your head with dignity and humility, knowing that life is not perfect, there are ups and downs, moments of greater or lesser inspiration. Get up and try again, and as many times as it takes.

And along the way, celebrate each conscious choice that leads you to greater calm, and create a life that is not based on what you would like it to be, nor tied to what has already been, but that has freed itself from the shackles of criticism, dissatisfaction and perfectionism, and flows with attention and awareness in the now.
