Those who run for pleasure, do not get tired
To practice Yoga and meditate continuously and for a long period of time, we will have to remember the old Portuguese proverb “Those who run for pleasure, do not get tired”.
And to run with pleasure, which in this case will be practicing and meditating without getting tired, we need to reflect on our routine and what we intend for our life. And at the end of this process of conscious reflection, we will arrive at our why, why do we want to practice Yoga and meditate?
The why is fundamental to maintaining a practice for a long period of time, and being able to overcome all the obstacles and difficulties that arise along the way. Discovering the why behind something we want to keep in our lives helps us get through challenging times and maintain discipline, motivation and focus.
Why do we need Yoga and meditation in our lives? Is it an important need for our happiness, health and well-being? And is it relevant for our future? For me the answer is very simple.
Yes, because
Meditation is part of the practice of Yoga, and the postures we perform on the mat are intended to create the stability and comfort necessary for us to later sit down to meditate. The postures teach us to be, without flight or fight, in physical, mental and emotional discomfort, generating growth and maturity in the art of acceptance, detachment, simplicity, equanimity and neutrality, which are then strengthened when we meditate.
The practice of Yoga and meditation serve to keep us on track, they are our GPS that helps us walk in the right direction.
