PROGRAM
February 7th, Saturday
8am – Mysore Style, the traditional way of teaching and practicing Ashtanga Yoga. It’s a group class that welcomes all levels of practitioners, from beginners to the most experienced. The teacher teaches the basics of the practice to those who are starting out, and adjusts, accompanies, and corrects the more experienced practitioners.
It’s a special class with the gentle sound of the students’ breaths, interrupted only by Susanna’s voice, who teaches individually, respecting the abilities and needs of each student. Expect a safe and conducive environment to learn more about your body and mind, to strengthen yourself and overcome challenges. (2 hours)
10am – Break.
11am – The Philosophy behind the practice.
It’s important to familiarize ourselves with Indian thought to contextualize the culture that created Yoga, so that it’s not limited to being seen and experienced merely as physical exercise. Understanding the philosophy behind the practice adds a dimension of knowledge about how our mind works that is fundamental to progress in Yoga.
The Yoga Sutras are an important text that helps to understand the workings of the mind, offering ancestral wisdom that allows for a better understanding of the relationship we establish with ourselves, with others, and with what is around us, so that we can live more peacefully and harmoniously. (2 hours)
February 8th, Sunday
8am – Mysore Style – This class style allows us to focus on our own breathing rhythm, connect deeply with our bodies, and learn to calm the mind. Recognizing our limits, overcoming them without fight or flight, but through attention and awareness. (2 hours)
10am – Break.
11am – Ashtanga Yoga & Pranayama.
Pranayama is defined as the control and expansion of breath.
In our tradition, which derives from Shri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath Jois, Pranayama is defined by breath retention, and to be a safe practice requires the practitioner to have a well-established and solid asana practice.
Susanna will present a very simple form of breathing exercise that does not involve breath retention and has a calming effect on the mind. This pranayama is for everyone.
+ time for reflection on the importance of having a practice.
Questions and Answers (2 hours)
1 PM – END.
